From a pandemic pop-up to a beloved East Village bakery, The Pastry Box is proof that passion always finds a way. Meet Tiara Bennett, the inspiring founder bringing sweetness, creativity, and purpose to everything she does.
The Pastry Box started as a result of being laid off from my Michelin starred restaurant job during the pandemic in 2020. I was making videos online and people started to ask me if I was selling anything. The idea to do the pop-up came about and three years later after meeting my business partner we opened the doors to our brick and mortar.
Recently being in the New York Times. It has always been a dream of mine and the panel that selected the participants of the article made it that much more special.
My grandmother and my mother have always inspired me in different ways but I am always being inspired by different women everyday. Some by their strength and resilience some by their style and confidence. A woman winning is an inspiration.
I get recipe inspiration from the classics that I love but new flavors that I have tried over the course of my career.
The fact that The Pastry Box is something bigger than me. It started as a motivation to create family legacy and wealth and has blossomed into inspiration for young girls and women who look like me. When people come into the bakery beaming with pride although they have never met me in their life. That keeps me going.
When I have a sweet craving, my first thought recently has been ice cream. Usually- vanilla bean but in love with Ben and Jerry's Americone Dream.
Why pink of course- pink symbolizes many concepts but mostly love, femininity, and activism.
