Morgan Lang chats with us about her inspirations, career milestones, and everything AGMES - handpicked by Tanya to be sold at the Madison Ave store

Tell us about AGMES and how it came to be!

At a young age, I loved and appreciated jewelry, whether through our family trips to Mexico City, where my grandmother introduced me to the silver markets she’d grown up with, or my mom’s stories from collecting pieces through her life. Though I began exploring ways to create jewelry for myself very early, it felt like a silly and distant childhood fantasy to build something like AGMES. It wasn’t until a night out a few years after college with an old friend, Andrew, that I started to believe I could build and live this dream—he gave me the courage to pursue it, and the very next day I put in my notice at my job.

What has been the proudest moment for you in your career?

I’m grateful that I can’t quite pinpoint one defining moment, but a few months back, I had the opportunity to collaborate with another brand I admire and respect so much, our friends at St. Agni. We’ve been working together for a few years now as wholesale stockists for AGMES, and this Spring, they approached me to collaborate on pieces for their FW23 show. The three metal bra top concepts that came from this collaboration were the first pieces I designed at this scale, made for the body in this completely new way. It was also such a special experience traveling to Sydney to see the pieces on the runway, and being welcomed into such a warm tight-knit community—it was an incredibly proud moment.

How would you describe your personal style?

I find my personal style is very organic—a living, breathing aspect of my life. As I shift as an individual, my style continues to evolve along with me. The main values I keep are an inclination towards a minimal vibe and a focus on quality pieces that will last. I’ve never loved putting a rigid definition around it, but rather staying open to my feelings as a natural course takes place.

What motivates you when you need an extra push?

I feel very fortunate to say I am doing what I love, but it’s true that some days or projects are more challenging than others. In those times, I tend to think about my friend, Andrew, and stay connected to his faith in me and AGMES. Continuing to push to make this dream real and a positive force in the world, is part of how I honor his friendship.

Who are the women that inspire you?

My grandmother Elvira has always been a constant source of inspiration—from the way she led her life to the beautiful worlds she introduced me to. One of ten siblings, she moved from Mexico alone, taught herself English, worked, found love, and raised her kids. She was my example for a life lived with beauty, grace, love, kindness, and joy, despite all the hardships she encountered during her lifetime.

What is your favorite piece of art, film or book you have seen or read recently?

The Man Who Planted Trees by Jean Giono. It’s an inspiring and beautiful story about life and how we can all make a difference. It emphasizes how, over time, small things add up, both positive and negative, and every little bit counts.

If you were a color, what color would you be and why?

The first thing that comes to mind is probably a shade of yellow, like a rich, saturated yellow you find in sunflowers during peak summer. I’m recalling the joy I get from passing through these in farmers’ markets, and that’s exactly what I would hope to do for others.
