Lucie is wearing the Winslet Top, Ari Skirt, and Barton Dress.
Meet Lucie Franc de Ferriere, the French-born baker behind From Lucie, a downtown favorite that brings a touch of countryside charm to New York City. Inspired by her mother’s recipes and a longing for home during the pandemic, Lucie has since built her bakery up as a place of comfort, community, and really good cake. With a cookbook on the way and a loyal neighborhood following, she’s proving that the simplest things, done beautifully, are often the most meaningful.
I’ve always had a passion for eating cake, but the baking part came later.
From Lucie came from the need to feed the Lower East Side and East Village community during Covid, and I was missing my mother’s cake from back home.
I moved to NYC in my early 20’s as an art gallery intern with no idea what I was doing or if I’d stay more than a year. I am very close to my family and attached to my home so I try to go home to France as often as possible, but I’ve built my own family here in New York that makes me feel like home. I just make sure I walk my dog every day and remind myself that nothing is that serious.
Does a chocolate eclair count as a dessert?
From my mother’s garden and kitchen.
I would be lying if I didn’t say terrifying, but also so gratifying. I am so excited for everyone to finally be able to make my bakery recipes at home, and I finally get to have all my recipes in one place ha!
I am excited for spring and all the beautiful flowers to emerge again, and I am simply excited to keep seeing the same people come in for their slice of cake or cookie.
There are many, but here is a short list: My mother, Kerry Diamond, Benjamina Ebuehi, Griselda Pollock, Ashley Coiffard and Natasha Pickowicz.
I would be a dusty rose color. It reminds me of anything vintage and timeless and I love that.
