Kelly Augustine, Fashion and Celebrity Stylist and Content Creator, gives us a glimpse into her world
I was naturally styling people by nature of my content creator work, and my work in the Fashion industry as a Visual Merchandiser and Producer. But as the story goes for my transition into Styling professionally, a friend of a friend (who is a Film Director) asked for a recommendation for a Stylist who knew plus bodies and my friend passed my name along. That was a job for a huge New York Times feature. I did it and loved it and decided to keep going. That was October 2020!
I am very blessed to say I've had so many highlights?! Being with Danielle Brooks and her bridal party for her wedding day was wonderful and so much fun, my cover shoot for Brides with Gabourey Sidibe was such a dream, and I am still reeling from the fact that I got to participate in The Met Gala with Radha Blank. My career has been so incredible because I've gotten to work with so many of my favorite people.
New York post-pandemic truly feels like a new place. So many things shut down during that time, and so many interesting things have opened up. I've also recently moved to Brooklyn - which is its own city in itself - so I'm really in a state of discovery right now! I feel like a tourist, truly.
Right now, I don't really have a personal style per se. I'm just hyper-focused on being comfortable. I actually purged my closet at the beginning of the year, and it is completely devoid of color. I started it as a challenge to see if I could pare down and focus (as a Stylist it is very easy to get distracted by clothes), but I'm ready to reintroduce some color. I'm a New Yorker, but just wearing solely is killing me!
Fuchsia. It's deep, rich, mysterious and invigorating when in abundance.
I'm really feeling like the world is my oyster right now! I've been Styling for a little over 2.5 years now, and I'm ready for the next stage. I'm feeling like design could be in my future. I'm also really excited for my first summer in Brooklyn, and I'm excited to see Beyonce in Sweden haha.
I don't know if people realize how intimate styling really is. And to see how hard my clients work, consistently representing and pushing barriers, while also wives and moms and business owners...I'm always in awe. They are truly superwomen!
